Where to Buy

Lots of reviewers have weighed in on the Canon PowerShot G9 digital camera. Enthusiast sites such as The Imaging Resource and Steve's Digicams provide the most detailed and critical reviews. The review at DigitalCameraInfo.com is equally detailed, but its technical jargon makes it harder to read for novices. Consumer Reports also rates the Canon PowerShot G9, but doesn't provide much discussion. Amazon.com should be your first stop for user reviews.

According to reviews, the 12-megapixel Canon PowerShot G9 is a great choice for experienced photographers. However, in the most recent reviews, it's been eclipsed by the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 (*est. $405), which is smaller and lighter, and costs less. Pluses for the PowerShot G9 include manual control, RAW format support, a hot shoe for external flash units, a 6x optical zoom and more. There are a myriad of manual settings, plus automatic options and scene modes. Photo quality is generally top-notch, especially at lower ISO settings.
