does what it is supposed to, June 22, 2009

I bought this camera for my girlfriend (thus the pink version). I chose this one so that it can fit in her purse and can be powered on and take pics in less than 2 seconds. The 10 mb pics look great, the detail is amazing. She is really happy with the purchase. Unfortunately this did not come with a mem stick, but the 4 gb of internal memory are quite sufficient. I'd recomend purchasing some screen protectors and a case.

Very Disappointed, June 21, 2009

I purchased this camera in January, and have regretted it ever since. Everything is worked via touchscreen, which is great for my iPhone, but with this camera, it means that real time and effort is required to change picture settings. This is worst when it comes to video. With my old T-100 (which I loved) you could flip a switch and be instantly in video mode. With the T-700, you need to turn the camera on, then start working the touch screen to get there. What this means is that you can no longer start recording with just a moments notice, it's now a process. The video quality also seems much worse than my old T-100. The same is true with picture settings; both hands are required to change them, so there is no longer that freedom to just flip the front down and start shooting. Perhaps most frustrating of all is that you can no longer opt to turn the flash on (although you can turn it off). The flash is only available if the camera detects that a flash is needed. This means that when there is a backlight that you'd like the flash to offset, you need to change the photo type to "low light" so that the flash will kick in. How lame. I would've given this camera two stars, but for the worst feature. When you try to review your photos, you (well, I) get a message that says "processing images". It takes about 10-12 seconds to get to the photos (it should take 1). This used to happen occasionally but now happens to me almost every time. It does take pictures, so it's not completly worthless, but I won't be buying a Sony Cybershot next time around. - Ryan

Our Sources

1. Imaging-Resource.com

Wowed by the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700's external beauty, Imaging Resource nonetheless performs exhaustive tests and determines that the image quality is fine for casual users. The 3.5-inch, high-resolution LCD display draws raves, although it's a bit of a battery drain.

2. CNET

CNet lab-tests the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 and rates it "excellent," with about 20 user reviews combining for a slightly lower score. Reviewer Joshua Goldman says photo quality is "respectable," but the real star is the display, including many slideshow options for the 3.5-inch LCD screen.

3. PCMag.com

After thorough testing, PC Magazine gives the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 a score of four out of five, praising its "terrific" images and "one of the most impressive LCDs we've ever seen." On the downside are ergonomics and battery life.

4. ConsumerReports.org

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 is among the more than 60 digicams rated, but only subscribers have access to the ratings chart and product reviews. The testing is unquestionably professional, but you can find more detailed reviews on the aforementioned free websites.

5. StevesDigicams.com

These long, detailed reviews have one major flaw -- they don't really compare one camera against its competitors. Still, it's worth a look. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 is called an "awesome ...; fast" compact, but less so indoors, with a lot of red-eye problems.

6. Amazon.com

Only about 30 owner reviews are posted at this writing for a good average score, just a few posting negative comments about the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700. Those complaints about image quality are common for a small digital camera. Some say the red-eye correction is poor.
