Very Good Camera, October 5, 2009
Takes good pictures. I wish it zoomed in a little more but for what I spent the picture clarity is very good.
Good buy..., September 3, 2009
This one I bought it for my friend and he is using it most of the time now and he is about the quality of photo..
This is a good buy for my friend..
unbelievable..., May 31, 2009

First off, it's a beautiful camera. The color is nice and it has a lot of great features. That smile thing isn't really helpful though since you have to smile really big for it to work. Every thing was fine until a couple months in I was using the zoom application when the lense would no longer come out. Instead of waiting and paying to get it repaired I just exchanged it for a different one. I would not reccommend.

No Dynamic Range and Unusably Bad Auto Settings, May 1, 2009

I feel completely cheated by this camera, and would at any price. The lost opportunity that so many horrible Easter photos represents truly rankles. I purchased this at COSTCO before Christmas because it was on sale. I didn't do too much research because I was under the misapprehension that Sony didn't sell junk. As it turns out, most of the photos taken by this camera are worse than my Motorola Razor. Fundamentally, the camera appears to have no dynamic range. If there is any shade in an outdoor picture, the sunny parts are washed out. Indoors, the automatic settings appear to be choosing the highest possible ISO setting every time. And Sony gave it a really high ISO setting to choose from, because the Easter photos were all a total bust. I have never seen such grainy photos from any camera of any type at any time of day or night. Not surprisingly, the photos are frequently out of focus. I don't know how any auto-focus algorithm could come to the right focus with such poor images to work from. If we don't decide to run it over with the car, we'll have to figure out how to operate the camera in full manual mode so as not to waste future photo opportunities. On a side note, the camera can't charge through the USB, which means that you have to take the battery out to recharge it. Otherwise the docking station is an extra $70. What a scam.

Our Sources

1. CNET

Despite "middling" photo quality in lab tests, "tiny" controls and barely qualifying as a subcompact, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 rates a "very good" from CNet and slightly lower in about ten user reviews. Pluses include the 5X lens, good image stabilization and many shooting options.

2. Digital Camera Resource Page

DCRP offers very thorough reviews that include photo and video samples, but unfortunately doesn't ever say "buy this one." Reviewer Jeff Keller likes the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150, but notes the dearth of manual controls wouldn't make it a good choice for those who need long exposures or operate in unusual lighting situations.

3. StevesDigicams.com

Reviews here are based on solid testing and are more than long enough, but fall short by not ranking the cameras. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is recommended highly as a versatile performer, although the small buttons can be a problem.

4. DigitalCameraReview.com

Reviews here are long and thorough and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 gets favorable feedback, despite some red-eye problems. It's worth noting that in a later review of the DSC-W170, which costs about $50 more, reviewer David Rasnake says the W150 is the better deal.

5. ConsumerReports.org

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is not among the nine Sony digicams ranked, but three other DSC-W series models are. Still, you have to be a subscriber to see the ratings, and more detailed reviews are available elsewhere for no cost.

6. Amazon.com

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 draws about 70 owner reviews at this writing, with about a dozen scoring it fewer than four out of five stars. Most of the complaints concern image quality, though that's normal for small digicams. One says the smile detection works for only very broad, ridiculous-looking smiles.
