April. 2009. Method Smarty Dish Detergent is an eco-friendly dishwasher detergent that comes in easy-to-use premeasured tablets. It receives positive reviews, many from people who had been disappointed in their quest to find an environmentally friendly dishwasher detergent. Method Smarty Dish Detergent is free of phosphates and chlorine, although other ingredients are not specified. Reviewers say it cleans dishes very well, even removing old stains, and leaves behind no spots or residue. Method Smarty Dish comes in a pink grapefruit scent as well as a formulation free of fragrance and dye. Reviewers note that it is one of the most expensive dishwasher detergents. Cascade Complete All-in-1 Gel (*est. 20 cents per load) is much less expensive than Method Smarty Dish Detergent, and receives top marks in cleaning heavily soiled dishes, pots and pans. However, Cascade Complete contains phosphates and, in some versions, bleach.
