Wal-Mart Great Value Dishwasher Detergent

Budget dishwasher detergent, powder

Pros
  • Cleans dishes well
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • Does less well on pots and pans
  • Does not disclose ingredients

Walmart Great Value Dishwasher Detergent is less expensive than other leading brands, but it cleans nearly as well in testing. We found many positive reviews from consumers who say this powdered detergent does well even when dishes are not pre-rinsed. Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs (*Est. 39 cents per load) receives better scores for cleaning heavily soiled pots and pans, but at almost four times the cost per load. Walmart Great Value Dishwasher Detergent does not disclose its ingredients but has recently been reformulated to be phosphate-free.

At more than twice the cost of the Walmart brand, Biokleen Automatic Dish Powder (*Est. 21 cents per load) is an environmentally friendly option that does not contain phosphates, dyes or chlorine. Consumers say it cleans dishes very well, but, like the Walmart detergent, Biokleen falls behind Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs when it comes to pots and pans.

Walmart Great Value Dishwasher Detergent is included in the ConsumerReports.org test on dishwasher detergent. We found generally positive reviews from users at ThriftyFun.com, GardenWeb.com and BlissTree.com.
