It's a step up from the popular $450 to $550 price range, but the SHE3AR75UC receives the most consistently high scores from reviewers and thus earns our top recommendation in the dishwasher category. This Bosch Ascenta model offers excellent cleaning results, energy and water efficiency, drying effectiveness and useful cycles, according to professional and user reviews. A few say the interior is slightly smaller than that of other machines, but users don't consider this a big problem.
Consistently delivers spotless dishes. The Bosch SHE3AR75UC earns unbeatable ratings for its cleaning effectiveness in expert reviews, and users report the same level of performance. One reviewer says that dishes come out perfectly clean even when the machine is crowded and dishes are stacked on top of one another. Yet, another owner reports intentionally leaving food particles on dishes to see how the machine would perform -- and being very pleased with the spotless outcome. Drying performance is also excellent, according to most users, with one commenting that even plastics come out dry and others noting that drying is aided if you open the door slightly after the cycle finishes. The model is Energy Star rated and considered highly energy and water efficient in both expert and user reviews.
Simple to program and a cinch to load. According to reviewers, the Bosch SHE3AR75UC is easy to operate with intuitive controls. Some point out that the time-delay option is particularly useful. Reviewers also consider the adjustable racks easy to load, even with oversized items, and one user calls the silverware basket "simple and perfectly functional." Some users note, however, that the interior of the machine is slightly smaller than that of other models, although most owners say this isn't an issue. Some also observe that the tines are close together, although many say it's nevertheless very easy to figure out how to load items efficiently.
Unanimously considered very quiet. Reviewers say the Bosch SHE3AR75UC operates extremely quietly. In fact, "quiet" is among the top five most-cited features by users on the BestBuy.com comments page; the only positive feature selected more often by users is cleaning performance. One user says it is hard to hear the machine running even if you're in the same room, while another comments that the model also works well in a home where the family room and kitchen are combined, since you can sleep, watch TV or listen to music without being disturbed by dishwasher noises. We found no user complaints about noise with this model, although one reviewer says it's a "tad noisier" than expected but still very quiet. In addition, even those reporting disappointment with cleaning performance or rack tines nevertheless praise the machine's quietness.
Good warranty and potential rebates. This dishwasher is a step up from promotionally priced units, which can run less than $400. Nevertheless, the Bosch SHE3AR75UC has an Energy Star rating, which means it potentially qualifies for rebates, depending on the policies of local utilities. Some retailers also occasionally offer rebates to consumers who buy multiple Bosch appliances. The SHE3AR75UC has a one-year warranty that covers both parts and labor, and longer coverage for specific parts including the racks, electronic components and tub. We read only a few reports of mechanical breakdowns, and the warranty receives a rating of "better than most" -- the second highest rating available -- in J.D. Power and Associates' 2012 Kitchen Appliance Satisfaction Study. Maintenance involves regular cleaning of the tub and filter, and periodic checking to see that the spray arm is tightened.
The latest dishwasher evaluation by ConsumerReports.org pits 214 dishwasher models against one another, washing dishes smeared with egg yolk, raspberry jam, peanut butter and other tough-to-clean foods. Machines are scored on five factors: cleaning ability, energy efficiency, noise level, ease of use and cycle time. While the Bosch SHE3AR75UC is not specifically tested, a similar model is, and the editors say they expect both models to perform similarly.
