If you live in an apartment or have a small kitchen without room to install a built-in dishwasher, owners say the Danby DDW1805W (*Est. $400) cleans dishes just as well as more expensive under-the-counter models. While this 18-inch dishwasher doesn't have the capacity of the similarly-priced (built-in) Whirlpool DU1055XTVQ (*Est. $400), it is Energy Star-certified and has a stainless-steel tub and three wash levels. Owners say it has plenty of space for plates, glasses, and silverware, but only small pots and pans will fit inside. Some owners don't like the adapter that must be installed on the sink faucet -- it replaces the aerator that many faucets include. The Danby isn't sold in brick-and-mortar stores, but it is widely available through online retailers.

We didn't find any professional reviews of the Danby DDW1805W, but this model is popular among contributors to Walmart.com, Buzzillions.com, Epinions.com and Amazon.com where it receives a combined total of nearly 400 owner reviews.
