Comparison testing shows that the low-cost Whirlpool DU1055XTVQ dishwasher can clean as well as some of the more expensive models, such as the Kenmore 13742 (*Est. $560), although it's noisier and not as stylish. The Whirlpool is a basic dishwasher that comes in white, black on black, bisque, silver and stainless steel. Although it lacks extra features, the Whirlpool has the basics covered solidly, including four wash cycles, a tall plastic tub that lets you load tall items in both racks, adjustable tines and a delayed-start option. Owner reviews posted to Amazon.com are generally complimentary, but we did read some reports about flimsy parts and early breakdowns. Still, owners give the Whirlpool DU1055XTVQ higher scores than some other bargain dishwashers. The latest version has a soak-and-scour option that soaks, cleans, and then re-soaks dishes to remove caked-on food.

The Whirlpool DU1055XTVQ is included in ConsumerReports.org's latest roundup of dishwashers, which are rated on cleaning ability, noise and ease of use. Owner reviews at Amazon.com and survey results from J.D. Power and Associates help complete the picture.
