Editor's note: Natura Pet Foods, makers of Innova Evo, was sold earlier this year to Procter & Gamble.
Experts say Innova Evo is among the better dry food choices. Innova Evo has a high meat content and draws its carbohydrate content from high-quality sources like potatoes. Although the food includes fruits and vegetables, the first four ingredients are meat or meat meals, and some reviewers say the protein content is too rich for certain dogs and is not recommended for puppies. Among competing foods, Orijen Dry Dog Food (*Est. $40 per 15.4 lb. bag) draws more kudos, with several reviewers calling it unsurpassed among dry foods. Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Dog Food (*Est. $23 for an 18 lb. bag) has a lower meat content, but it is less expensive and widely praised for using top quality ingredients.
Among reviewers, DogFoodAnalysis.com covers the most products and offers detailed reviews on some of them. Six Innova Evo dry foods get the maximum 6 stars. DogAware.com is as credible but less encyclopedic. Blogger Susan Peters also rates Innova Evo, but the site is highly critical, and ratings are sometimes contradictory, leading to confusion. Owner reviews can be found at RateItAll.com and OnlyNaturalPetStore.com.

2. DogAware.com
Mary Straus says she has attended seminars and studied on her own to learn about dog diets, and her comments are informed and reasonable, based on label analysis. She says Innova Evo has excellent quality, but like any dog food, should be part of a diet rotation, not a daily staple.

More than 330 owner reviews give Innova Evo a middling average score. Some posters warn that the high protein content may be too rich for some dogs and may cause diarrhea.

5. Dogma
This California pet store website doesn't rate dog foods, but it does offer good general buying advice. It lists foods to avoid because they contain byproducts, corn meal and added animal fat. Innova Evo is not included in that list.
