Experts say Natura Evo is among the better dry food choices. Natura Evo Turkey & Chicken Formula has a high meat content and draws its carbohydrate content from high-quality sources like potatoes. Although the food includes fruits and vegetables, the first four ingredients are meat or meat meals, and it is grain-free. The food meets American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) standards for dog nutrition. The food is available in kibble sizes suitable for large and small dogs, but the ingredients are identical.
Pet-food advocates were somewhat distressed when Natura -- maker of Evo -- was purchased by Proctor & Gamble in 2010. However, the company promised that ingredient quality would not be compromised and, so far, that promise has been kept. That doesn't stop some from saying that concerned pet owners should keep a watchful eye on the brand. Some reviewers say the protein content is too rich for certain dogs and add that the high calcium content makes it unsuitable for puppies.
Among competing foods, Orijen Dry Dog Food (*Est. $40 per 15.4 lb. bag) draws more kudos with several reviewers calling it unsurpassed among dry foods. Natural Balance Original Ultra (*Est. $30 per 15 lb. bag) has a lower meat content and uses some high-quality grains, but it is less expensive and widely praised for using top-quality ingredients. A testing program to ensure product safety is also well praised.
Among reviewers, DogFoodAdvisor.com offers detailed ratings and discussions. PetFoodRatings.net has a briefer but still helpful report. The report at DogFoodAnalysis.com is older but still pertinent. DogAware.com is as credible but less encyclopedic. Owner reviews can be found at Only Natural Pet Store.
