Newman's Own Organics Organic Beef & Liver draws recommendations for its high meat content and high quality ingredients. The fact that it is 95 percent organic -- and as a result, carries the U.S. Department of Agriculture organic seal -- can give some comfort to dog owners concerned about artificial ingredients, preservatives, pesticides and more. The food is marketed as being appropriate as a primary food -- and some experts say that it closely replicates a dog's ancestral diet -- but its high meat content could cause a problem for some dogs. Natural Balance Ultra Premium (*Est. $30 per 15 lb. bag) doesn't rate quite as highly, but it is less expensive, uses high quality ingredients and has a company testing program for dog food safety.
DogFoodAdvisor.com has the most complete report on Newman's Own Organics grain-free foods, including Organic Beef & Liver. Susan Thixton of PetsumerReport.com doesn't comment on the company's grain-free foods, but she has analyzed and rated other dog foods from Newman's Own.
