Maclaren Twin Techno

Pros
  • Fits through standard doorways
  • Lighter than most double strollers
  • Durable
  • Excellent maneuverability
Cons
  • Narrow seats
  • Expensive
  • Not an all-terrain stroller
  • Does not accommodate infant car seats
  • Maclaren strollers recalled after amputating fingers

Reviewers say the Maclaren Twin Techno is a high-quality double stroller that's worth the premium price. The Twin Techno is both narrower (29 inches) and lighter (27 pounds) than most side-by-side double strollers, making it reasonable to maneuver through most doorways and onto buses and subways. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly side-by-side stroller, the Combi Twin Sport (*Est. $225) gets good marks for its maneuverability and relatively small profile, accommodates one infant car seat (something the Maclaren cannot do) and is actually recommended more often than the Maclaren. Like all other Maclaren strollers, the Twin Techno was recalled in November 2009 after reports that 12 children had their fingers amputated in Maclaren hinges. Maclaren strollers now include protective hinge covers.

Along with ConsumerReports.org, which doesn't cover the Maclaren Twin Techno, "Baby Bargains" is the gold standard in stroller reviews. Denise and Alan Fields could devote a bit more space to their analysis of the Twin Techno, but their reputation for solid unbiased reviews gives their coverage the edge. People.com's Celebrity Baby Blog fleshes out the details on this stroller, touching on just about every aspect of its features and performance. Canadian Family magazine includes the Twin Techno in a best doubles roundup.

1. Baby Bargains

"Baby Bargains" has broad, if not always thorough, coverage of single and double baby strollers. 2. Celebrity Baby Blog

Despite the name, People.com's Celebrity Baby Blog actually covers baby strollers from the perspective of average parents. Writer "Nancy" contributes a thorough analysis of the Maclaren Twin Techno. Overall, she says it's a great city stroller that isn't well-suited for rough terrain.

3. Canadian Family

It's unclear how formal or systematic the analysis behind this review was, but the blurb on each of the six double strollers does include quotes from a parent tester. Tester Leanne Lindsay has mostly good feedback on the Maclaren Twin Techno. She's particularly positive about the maneuverability, even on snowy sidewalks.
