No software included, August 21, 2009

Purchased from Beach Audio and the drive arrived promptly. However there was NO software as shown on this Amazon page. I emailed and talked in person to both Pioneer and Beach Audio customer service. Both refused to send me any software. The say the same thing, that the software is included in the order and the can't send it separately. Beach Audio give me an RMA when asked and I have shipped the first drive back. Thinking it was a one time glitch, I ordered another drive from Beach and it also arrived with no software. I know assume that it is Pioneer's fault, that they are not shipping any software. So BEWARE!! Without any new software, my computer running XP Pro can't read Blu-ray. So all I can say is that it plays and burns Dual Layer DVD very well

Pioneer makes good drives, March 25, 2009
Very nice drive. It was recognized by Mac Pro without any issues. The only problem was taking front plate of the drive tray (for PC not necessary). It does not come with SATA cable so you have to buy one. Recommended.

1. CDRInfo.com

The Pioneer BDR-203BK gets an Editor's Choice award at CDRInfo.com. The site's reviewers say it is the fastest Blu-ray burner yet, and can burn BD-R media as fast as 8x. DVD and CD speeds and quality are not as spectacular, but even there CDRInfo.com finds little cause for concern.

2. About.com

About.com's guide to computer hardware Mark Kyrnin lists his top current Blu-ray drives, and the Pioneer BDR-203 is named as the best Blu-ray burner. His brief description says the drive is the fastest Blu-ray option, and that it is a "solid" performer when dealing with DVD and CD media as well. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com, but the two don't share an editorial affiliation.)

3. CDFreaks.com

Wendy Collins at CDFreaks.com points out that the Pioneer BDR-203BK is, first and foremost, a Blu-ray burner -- write quality and speed in that format are cited as excellent. Blu-ray and DVD movie playback is also praised as "near-silent." However, Collins notes that the drive is slow in reading from or writing to CD media, and that writing to DVD-RW discs could be better.
