Stopped working after 5 months, February 3, 2010
It worked fine for 5 months but due to poor construction it is broken now. It says "Loading" on the front panel but the disk never plays. I've played maybe 40-50 disks. What a waste of money. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem.

Find another brand if you're looking to buy a DVD player. I know I will.
Good price... but questionable function., February 1, 2010
Appears to be well-constructed, but some features, like the indicator of the number of disks currently on the turntable, seem to function off and on. The turntable rotation is sluggish and somewhat halting, and the load time seems a bit lengthy.
Excellent Value, January 31, 2010

If you just got a new HDTV and feel your DVDs look like garbage with your old DVD player, look no further then this unit. The upconversion on this player works well, and will breathe new life into your DVD collection. Many are not yet available on blu-ray, so in many cases DVD is still your only choice. If you like to watch multiple disc sets, such as TV series on DVD, then the multi-disc capacity of this player is very convenient. It has a nice remote, which I feel is an important feature. At this price you can not go wrong.

A nice DVD --- IF it works, December 30, 2009

I have no complaints about the picture or sound quality of this DVD player IF it works. I, like several others, have noted the problem where it becomes unable to read DVDs at all. I am sure this does not happen all the time, but just scanning the reviews, when a significant number have the exact same problem with the player, there has to be a design defect. As for the idea that it is overheating that causes the problem, perhaps, but I had mine on the table-top with excellent ventilation and still within a year it was unable to read DVDs. So, if you buy it, enjoy it while it lasts, and make sure you have a good service or trade in plan, because expecting this player to last is a bad bet.

Liked it so much I bought two!, December 6, 2009

Bought this DVD player to replace our old multi CD player. Not only does this player play DVD's it also plays CD's and MP3's recorded onto DVDR's or CDR's. With room for 5 DVD's you can play over 7000 MP3 songs! Nice substitute for a juke box. So easy to use I bought a second one for my mother-in-law and even she loves it. Pros: Compatibility with all standard DVD's and CD's. Excellent price for what you get. Ability to play all MP3 recorded disks. HDMI ease of hookup. Cons: The labels for the disk locations are hard to read. Some white paint on the recessed numbers should fix this. No random play from disk to disk. Remote could have better compatibility with other brands of amplifiers and TV's.

The Sony DVP-NC800H/B generally draws a thumbs-up here, though feedback is not extensive. Some complaints are noted -- like an inadequate shuffle-play feature -- but most seem to be pleased. The silver version of the player (Sony DVP-NC800H/S) gets a few reviews here as well. The overall rating is similar, but a few more unhappy users can be found.
