DVD Recorders
by Contributors to AVSForum.com
Our AssessmentAVSForum.com is one of the better user-to-user, home-entertainment and technology discussion sites on the Internet. Within the site's DVD recorders forum, you can find user reports, reviews, discussions of features and flaws and more. Discussions can get spirited at times, but most here are willing to lend a hand if you have specific questions. The Magnavox MDR515H/F7 draws lots of comments here, and most users seem pleased.

DVD Recorders
by Contributors to Amazon.com
Our AssessmentAmazon.com provides users with a platform to let others know how pleased they are with their DVD recorder selection. The listing of DVD recorders contains some nonrecording devices as well as discontinued products. Both of these factors make navigation tedious, unless you know exactly what you are looking for. On the positive side, you can see how many ratings a DVD recorder has received right on the main navigation page. Many recorders get lots of reviews, and there's enough separation in ratings to tell which DVD recorders leave most users satisfied.

DVD Recorders
by Editors of ConsumerReports.org
Our AssessmentConsumerReports.org's coverage has become very dated and is skewed toward DVD recorder/VCR combo players, but it's still worthwhile. While most DVD recorders are discontinued, others remain current or available at retail. Testing is done, but discussion is on the brief side. Readers also weigh in with their own reviews, and some DVD recorders get considerable feedback.

DVD Recorders
by Editors of CNET
Our AssessmentLike most professional reviewers, CNET has moved beyond DVD recorders -- it last tested a DVD recorder in 2009. However, a couple of DVD recorders reviewed here remain current, and a few others have been replaced by DVD recorders that have only been slightly upgraded. Testing is done, and discussion is reasonably detailed.
5. About.com

Top DVD Recorders
by Robert Silva
Our AssessmentAbout.com's home-theater guide lists what he considers to be the top DVD recorders. Robert Silva touches on the advantages and disadvantages of each recorder. Testing, however, is not described or documented and the list is falling a little out of date. There's also a link to an informative article on why DVD recorders are becoming scarce, and Blu-ray recorders for consumers are yet to appear at all in the U.S. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com, but the two don't share an editorial affiliation.)

DVD & Blu-ray Players
by Contributors to Walmart.com
Our AssessmentWalmart.com only lists two DVD recorders, but both are Magnavox DVD recorders with built-in hard disk drives. Both score relatively well -- certainly better than average for DVD recorders -- with considerable feedback.
7. JR.com
As of March 2011
Home DVD Recorders
by Contributors to JR.com
Our AssessmentJR.com is another retailer with a fair number of user reviews of DVD recorders. Reviews here tend not to be particularly long, but they include a bottom line comment whether or not the user would recommend a DVD recorder to a friend.
8. BestBuy.com
As of March 2011
DVD Recorders
by Contributors to BestBuy.com
Our AssessmentBest Buy is another electronics retailer that allows consumers to post reviews of products they buy. Like Amazon.com, you can see ratings -- and the number of reviews -- from the main landing pages without clicking on individual products. However, most DVD recorders don't have as many reviews as at Amazon.com, and none rates particularly well.
9. NewEgg.com
As of March 2011
DVD Recorders
by Contributors to Newegg.com
Our AssessmentNewegg.com lists a few DVD recorders, but most have only attracted a handful of user reviews. One plus here is that Newegg.com has a reputation for attracting a more tech-savvy crowd. User-reviewers are asked to assess their technical know-how, which can help put comments into better context.
10. Epinions.com
As of March 2011
DVD Recorder
by Contributors to Epinions.com
Our AssessmentOwners posting here offer some insight into various products' performance. Like Amazon.com, Epinions.com lists many discontinued models, so it's better to visit once you've got your choice narrowed to a few models. There are also fewer reviews, though what's here is often more detailed than at retailer sites.
11. Videohelp.com

DVD Recorders
by Contributors to VideoHelp.com
Our AssessmentThis website lets users rate and comment on DVD recorders they own. While the quality of the feedback is variable, there are some fairly sophisticated and knowledgeable contributors as well, and some of the comments provide details -- like how to work around issues or add features -- that are hard to find anywhere else. While many current models are included, most have relatively few comments. There are hundreds of long-discontinued models, and models not sold in the U.S. are listed as well.
