Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

Best ebook reader

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite delivers all the benefits of the highly regarded Kindle, but adds a front-lit display, an even higher level of text clarity and excellent touch-screen controls. An abundance of software features help solidify its top-rated status. The Paperwhite is available in two versions: Wi-Fi ($120) and 3G ($180).

Best cheap ebook reader

Experts say the Amazon Kindle delivers a great ebook reading experience that competitors can't match for a price that's just as unbeatable. The Kindle is small enough to slip into a pocket, and its E Ink display and large ebook library are among the best around. It lacks expandable storage and ePub support, however, and typing is a chore.

Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch
Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch

Cheap touch-screen ebook reader

If you want a touch-screen e-reader for less than $100, experts say the Nook Simple Touch is easily the best non-illuminated model available. The battery lasts for weeks, the E Ink display performs very well and the ergonomics are nothing short of wonderful. The Nook supports the ePub format and lacks the Kindle's advertisements, but doesn't have audio features or a web browser.
