While there aren't enough professional tests of electric blankets to say that the Sunbeam Microplush Heated Blanket is the end-all, beat-all among heated blankets, it does finish as the winner in a comparison test at Good Housekeeping; plus, we saw those findings supported in more than 100 user reviews at Walmart.com and other sites.

This Sunbeam blanket, which comes in twin through king sizes and in nine color choices, is said to heat up well; it has a large, easy to use controller (queen and king sizes have dual controls); and it holds up well in the wash without pilling or shrinking (it's machine washable and dryable). The blanket comes with a five-year warranty, and it's a good idea to hang on to the receipt; in general, the complaints we read for all electric blankets mainly involve breakdowns within a year.

While it isn't tested, we read a nice evaluation at ConsumerReports.org about Sunbeam's energy-savings claims, which editors say do ring true. Walmart.com has the largest collection of user reviews, with about 90 owners contributing.
