Unlike some more expensive shavers, the Braun Series 1 190 (formerly the Braun FreeControl 1775) has few features. There's no cleaning base, for example, but cleaning is said to be easy. A thinner than usual foil allows for close shaves, but it is also more prone to breaking. Reports also say that its charge doesn't last very long. However, value is a significant plus. If you have a little more to spend and don't mind a rotary razor, the Philips Norelco 8020X Moisturizing Shaving System (*Est. $80) gets good reviews and can be used wet or dry. The Braun Series 1 190 can be used corded or cordless, and, like all Braun electric shavers, it has a 30-day trial period and a two-year warranty.

ConsumerReports.org includes the Braun Series 1 190 (at the time called the FreeControl 1775) in a roundup, which includes 14 foil and rotary electric shavers. The Braun 190 shaver also attracts a large number of reviews from owners posting on Amazon.com – more than 300 many of whom go into reasonable depth about the pros and cons of this electric shaver.
