Reviewers say the Precor EFX 5.33 is an excellent club-quality treadmill that isn't a realistic option for most budgets. Although most reviewers complain about the EFX 5.33's fixed-ramp design, the current model has an adjustable 15- to 30-degree incline, as well as moving handlebars for an upper-body workout. Precor gets very good feedback for its customer service and overall construction quality, and reviewers say the EFX 5.33 is reliable, smooth and solid. However, experts say that unless you're a serious athlete, you don't need to spend more than $4,000 on an elliptical trainer. Reviewers say the Sole E35 (*Est. $1,300) is a well-built machine that offers a total body workout and a powered adjustable incline for a fraction of the price of the Precor EFX 5.33. The NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 (*Est. $850) also offers a full-body workout and power adjustable incline, though NordicTrack offers a shorter warranty than Sole, and some owners report problems with customer service.

Several websites, including TreadmillDoctor.com and FitnessProfessorReview.com, have expert reviews of the Precor EFX 5.33 elliptical trainer. These sites do a good job of noting strengths and weaknesses. Reviews of the Precor EFX 5.33 at About.com and EllipticalTrainers.com don't offer much in the way of criticism, although About.com does rank the models it reviews, making it somewhat more useful.

2. FitnessProfessorReview.com

FitnessProfessorReview.com covers a wide range of fitness equipment, including elliptical trainers. Entries are brief, but the ratings breakdowns are useful. The Precor EFX 5.33 does well here, with 80 out of 100 overall and a high of nine out of 10 for aesthetics.

3. EllipticalTrainers.com

EllipticalTrainers.com covers a good selection of current elliptical trainers, but reviews tend to be short and there's no indication of any kind of testing. This site is the least positive about the Precor EFX 5.33, saying it can have an unnatural hopping feel and requires too much maintenance. The review of the 2008 EFX 5.33 has the same criticisms, and rates its value as "fair." This model does, however, get high marks for stability and quality.
