Tough but short heart-pumping drills: As previously mentioned, this DVD is a true Tabata routine, which features eight, four-minute segments, with a warm-up and a cool-down rounding out the routine. For each interval, Dixon slowly breaks down the beginner, intermediate and advanced version of each move. For example: The first interval is basic jumping jacks for beginners, squat jacks for the intermediate version and jumping air jacks for the advanced participant. Each move is performed for four minutes in 30-second bursts, where participants do as many repetitions as they can followed by 10 seconds of rest. This series is the base of the Tabata interval drills.
While challenging, reviewers say that the drills are incredibly effective as a cardio workout and that the short bursts keep the workout moving along at a nice pace. This workout is more appropriate for an intermediate fitness level, and the beginner versions of the moves are quite doable. A major plus, users note that you can either play all of the moves in succession or pick and perform the four-minute sections one at a time. Several note that they wish they had the option to customize the routine more without having to go back to the DVD menu.
