If you are an advanced fitness enthusiast looking for an intense, challenging, calorie-blasting workout, some of the more popular workout DVDs are not going to provide the intensity you desire. Experts warn that only those who have a high base fitness level should attempt these DVDs to help prevent injury from occurring.
Jari Love is one of the most well-known purveyors of intense workout-style DVDs. Love is primarily known as the creator of the no-nonsense Get Ripped! Program, which is our Best Reviewed Advanced Exercise Video. There are relatively positive reviews for several videos in this series, including Get Extremely Ripped (*Est. $13) and Get Ripped! 1000 (*Est. $15); the latter promises to burn 1,000 calories throughout the routine. While reviewers say that torching 1,000 calories in one routine is unlikely, most do agree that these tough routines will help push your fitness regimen to the next level.
As for Get Extremely Ripped, it receives accolades from CollageVideo.com and FitSugar.com, with the latter naming it one of the top fitness DVDs of 2009. It features two 30-minute, heart-pumping routines, which can be done separately or in succession. Reviewers say that the exercises lack innovation, but the variety is great. Some user reviews note that the video production, set, music and fashions feel somewhat dated. But Jari's excellent instruction and cheerful demeanor make this a top pick.
Besides Jari Love, many of the workout series such as P90X: Tony Horton's 90-Day Extreme Home Fitness Workout (*Est. $150), Insanity: 60-Day Total Body Conditioning Workout (*Est. $150) and Physique 57 (*Est. $60) will give veteran exercisers a run for their strength and aerobic abilities. If you are looking for a one-off DVD, those by Jillian Michaels tend do well with intermediate to advanced exercisers. But still, experts and users agree that Jari Love is the television trainer you should turn to.
