Worth every penny - the best if you care about your digital files, November 8, 2009

I've had various "portable" hard drives that for the most part served as just external hard drives. If you are not really needing the portability of an external hard drive but are instead looking for a hard drive to protect your photos, documents, videos, and other digital files this is it. It's very heavy so don't plan on moving it around a lot, but it will protect your files through water and fire. Since we live in a hurricane zone and often have lightning in our area (I've seen plenty of house fires started this way) we could not be happier with our decision to buy this external hard drive. I've also had two other portable hard drives fail due to mishandling by my kids. Since this is heavier and more permanent, I doubt I'll have that problem again.

My Digital Safe, October 14, 2009

I bought the 1 TB ioSafe because I wanted a good detachable harddrive that would last. I think it is worth the cost for what you get. The fact that they advertise it to be able to withstand fires, floods and theft seemed like a bit much to me at first, but now it feels more like my personal safe rather than just another computer componant: I have downloaded and scanned all of my music and photos; albums, cassettes, CD's etc. Pictures to include my entire family photo album, and all my important legal documents, tax statements, bank records etc. I placed these items into various partitions that I created. I like it so much I am thinking about purchasing another ioSafe for my DVD collection! My only real complaint would be that it is kind of noisy when it is working. Also, the blue lights in front are pleasing but, the on/off switch is in the back and would be a pain in the neck to turn off and on if you placed it on the floor; which is exactly where something this heavy normally usually goes: However, I placed mine on a glass shelf that's a part of my computer table. I then put a small carpet/rug remnant underneath so it doesn't scratch the glass and it also helps with the noise. The only compromise I am making is that I cannot bolt the safe to the floor. There is a nice hole in the rear frame to insert a bolt through if you want to do this but then you have to think about reaching down and turning it off and on all the time. Leaving it on all the time doesn't seem to great of an idea as the blue lights are bright and when it is saving things it does make some noise. In any case I didn't need to bolt it down so my solution works really great for me. The ioSafe makes you feel really secure. I am sure there are ways to add additional passwords/encryption codes etc. to further secure your data and valuables within the safe, but nothing I have is really all that valuable to anyone else but me, the peace of mine I get and the obvious thought that was put into this build makes this product quality in my book. It truly is My Digital Safe.

IT IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE, October 11, 2009
This drive is as good as it gets. Now, no more swapping drives & taking them home etc. Works great & easy to set up.
Worth the purchase (5 Stars), August 31, 2009

Fireproof and Waterproof. This was the only one I could find on the market. I'm using it as a secondary backup system for a our primary accounting server. I just plugged it in and gained immediate access to the drive. I just setup a backup job configuration from our Backup Exec program and scheduled to backup daily. Easy and hassle free. You get a 500 Gb Hard Drive encased in metal and fireproof foam for about $150. This is a great deal. Keep in mind it's roughly 18 lbs, so this isn't a hard drive you will carry around for use with a laptop. If you live in hurricane central, then this would be a great hard drive to protect your data. I plan on buying one for my home also.

Peace of Mind, August 17, 2009

The ioSafe provides you with the confidence and peace of mind that your data is completely secure. If there is a disaster around your computer: fire, smoke, flood, a fire sprinkler spewing water down, a cup of coffee falling on top of your CPU, you can rest easy. ioSafe will retrieve your data when the other solutions cannot make it happen. When your digital data really matters, get an ioSafe!

1. BigBruin.com

Blake James tests the ioSafe Solo on a Dell laptop, head-to-head against a 500 GB Western Digital My Book external hard drive, and finds the ioSafe transfers data slightly faster. Next, James torches the ioSafe in a 750-degree Fahrenheit fire until it's unrecognizable -- but the drive inside is untouched and works perfectly.

2. TestFreaks.com

The ioSafe transfers data just about as quickly as the Seagate BlackArmor WS110, as long as tester Kristofer Brozio sticks with USB ports (the BlackArmor also includes a faster eSATA connection). Brozio then throws the ioSafe in a creek for 20 minutes until it's full of water. Again, the drive inside emerges unscathed and works fine.

3. The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal posts a video taken at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, where the CEO of ioSafe drowns and torches an ioSafe Solo beyond recognition, Yet again, the Solo protects the drive and its data perfectly.

4. IT Reviews.com

This U.K. source doesn't burn or flood the ioSafe Solo, but it does test the drive and find it's instantly recognized by Windows XP and Vista.

Most of the nearly 20 reviews here give the product five out of five stars. However, other users suspect that a handful of the reviews are "plants." The reviews that don't draw questions are just as positive.
