Reviewers recommend Phisoderm Anti-Blemish Gel Facial Wash (*Est. $5 for 6 oz.) for acne-prone skin, but Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser can also be effective. Biore's cleanser contains salicylic acid, which studies show is effective for treating acne. However, skin-care expert Paula Begoun says salicylic acid is not as effective in a cleanser because of its brief contact with the skin. Still, consumers at MakeupAlley.com and Drugstore.com give Biore relatively high marks and say although it is a bit drying, the cleanser effectively clears blemishes.
Although Begoun is critical of Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser at her subscription-based website, Beautypedia.com, we found her review to be the most credible because it is based on extensive scientific research and testing. Though not as scientific, Allure and Real Simple magazines also test facial cleansers and other beauty products to find the best on the market. User reviews posted at MakeupAlley.com and Drugstore.com seem to echo expert opinion.

Paula Begoun gives Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser a poor rating because of its inclusion of menthol, a skin irritant. Begoun says the Ice Cleanser would otherwise be a "very good, water-soluble cleanser."
