Facial cleansing wipes are a convenient way to cleanse your face when time and portability are an issue. They travel well, won't leak all over your bag and can easily make it past airport security. They also work well when you're too tired to wash off your makeup before bed. Most reviewers, however, agree that they can't replace traditional facial cleansers and don't generally do as good a job as their liquid counterparts. Still, they're a great alternative in a pinch, and they are a much better option than skipping cleansing altogether.
Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash (*Est. $5.50 for 6 oz.) are single-use disposable towelettes designed to cleanse skin and remove makeup. Users at Drugstore.com and TotalBeauty.com love the convenience of these wipes, saying that they often use them while traveling and on late nights when they are too tired to bother with washing their faces. The easy-to-use wipes are ideal for all skin types and gentle enough for sensitive skin. They come in a resealable package to keep them moist. Paula Begoun warns that they won't remove all long-wearing makeup but are a good option for minor cleansing and refreshing when away from home. Although Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes don't require rinsing, several users prefer to do so because the wipes leave a bit of residue on the skin.
Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash (*Est. $5.50 for 6 oz.) are another option with claims of being gentle on skin but tough enough to remove waterproof mascara. Editors at Allure magazine recommend the wipes for sensitive skin because they don't contain any alcohol or irritating dyes and perfumes. Paula Begoun, on the other hand, says they aren't good for sensitive skin because they use a formaldehyde-releasing preservative that can cause irritation. We saw a few complaints from users about allergic reactions. Most, however, say the wipes do an excellent job of cleansing skin and removing makeup.
We chose to list Pond's Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes as a Best Reviewed facial cleanser because they're a more gentle option and are well liked by both professional reviewers and users.
