Bottom line

Neutrogena's Clear Pore Daily Scrub contains 3.7 percent benzoyl peroxide to help clear up acne, and fine-textured exfoliating microbeads. This is an ideal scrub for anyone with oily or acne-prone skin, but if you have dry or sensitive skin it can cause redness or further dry out your skin. Some users alternate it with other cleansing products to keep that drying to a minimum.

Performance

Gentle for an acne cleanser. Like many Neutrogena products, the Neutrogena Clear Pore Daily Scrub is geared toward treating acne with its 3.7 percent benzoyl peroxide content. Not everybody's skin reacts well to benzoyl peroxide; sometimes it causes redness, and the kaolin and bentonite clay content can make this scrub harder than others to rinse clean. The exfoliating microbeads feel good on your skin, though, and many users say they like the tingly feeling they get from the menthol (even though it's another potential irritant). Benzoyl peroxide tends to dry skin, so this is not recommended for those who already have dry skin.

Feel and smell

Surprisingly gentle. For a product geared toward treating acne, Neutrogena Clear Pore Daily Scrub is actually quite gentle. Users say they like the cool, tingly feeling the menthol gives them after rinsing their face, and they say the scrub is essentially a light, frothy cream. "Not harsh and has a very refreshing and clean feeling," writes one Amazon.com user. Still, the drier your skin, the less often you should use this product. Some rotate it with other cleansers to avoid irritating or overly drying their skin. The benzoyl peroxide will bleach just about anything -- including colored towels, bed sheets and even your hair -- if you don't rinse carefully.
