While the Brother IntelliFax-4100e is most certainly overkill for home or home-office users, its fast fax transmission speeds, high paper capacity (up to 500 sheets if a second, optional paper tray is used) and ability to store up to 500 pages in memory make it a good choice for a busy office where faxing is an important activity. Although initial cost of a laser-based fax machine is higher than that of fax machines using inkjet or thermal-transfer technologies, the output copy is sharper and the cost per printed page is lower. If you want a laser-based fax machine but are on a tighter budget, the Brother IntelliFax-2820 (*est. $175) is a tad slower and can't accommodate a second paper tray, but costs more than $100 less.
