The Infiniti by Conair SS9 is an effective flat iron, but some of its features, like steam, are more of a hindrance than convenience, reviewers say. While the steam technology may be beneficial for many hair types, the execution is lacking. Other features, like the digital heat settings and automatic shut-off, make this iron a favorite.
Lots of questionable extras. An expert's test found the Infiniti by Conair SS9 to be an excellent performer, and most user reviews agree. It has adjustable, digital heat settings, though there are only five settings to choose from. It also comes with a retractable comb that's supposed to help detangle hair -- some users like this feature, while others find it an inconvenience. It seems from reviews that the steam does enhance the iron's performance, but it doesn't last long enough for owners to do their whole head. Some also say water makes the iron heavier and bulkier.
Warning: snags and burns are possible. Some users say the water reservoir poses a danger, as it can easily snag hair or release steam that can burn hands. One expert, however, gives the SS9 good marks for safety, as it has an auto-off feature. It also comes with a heat resistant mat.

Review Credibility: Very Good ConsumerReports.org tested five straightening irons in both lab and home-use environments and the Infiniti by Conair SS9 is one of them. Flat irons were tested in a humidity chamber on swatches of naturally curly hair. The number of passes to straighten the hair were counted and recorded. In addition, nine staffers tried them at home.

2. Amazon.com
Review Credibility: Good There are more than 180 reviews of the Infiniti by Conair SS9 at Amazon.com, and they give it an overall 3.9 out of 5 stars, making the reviews more divided than for most of the flat irons included in our report. This is also the only steam iron included. Most users find this to be effective, and the reviews are generally very detailed, describing hair type and specific uses. However, most of the cons are associated with the steam function of this iron. For example, the iron has to be cool to refill the water chamber, but the steam doesn't last very long, and only distilled water can be used. It's also heavier and bulkier than most irons due to the water. Some users love the detangling combs, while others find them unhelpful or a hindrance. Users also say that the iron breaks easily in only a few uses.
