Hamilton Beach ChefPrep 72700 Chopper

pros
  • One owner likes the Hamilton Beach ChefPrep 72700 Chopper, saying it does a good job of blending food and is easy to use and store. But overall, we didn't find enough owner feedback on this small chopper to form a firm conclusion.
cons
  • Another owner says the Hamilton Beach ChefPrep 72700 Chopper doesn't chop food into uniform pieces. We just didn't find enough feedback on this chopper to make conclusions on its performance.

No longer abale to get parts, August 29, 2007
I like my machine and it runs great. I noticed small hairline cracks all over the s-blade. I called hamilton beach and they don's sell replacement parts for this processor anymore. They wouln't even give me a discount on a new one. I am now throwing away a perfectly good chopper.
what a joke, December 15, 2003

What were they thinking????, October 11, 2003

This is my second processor. I don't remember the first model but it was great. This one works great except for the top coming apart. Why would they screw two pieces together, what were they thinking? The first one had a one piece molded plastic top. Everytime I grate cheese a large chunk gets wedged between the disc and the top. It has ripped all of the screws out and separated the two pieces so I can no longer use it as a grater, which is why I'm on this site, trying to purchase either a new top or scews to repair the old one

Worked well for me!, August 13, 2003

This has been a great food processor for me! I bought model #70600 in about 1995 and have been very happy with it. It's still kicking. (I really think model 70600 is the earlier version of this 70700. My 70600 looks exactly like this down to the buttons on the top and the blades.) I use it to slice, grate, and puree. I used it just last week to grate sweet potatoes. I've used it for pizza dough. I haven't had any problems leaving it running (although I haven't tried running it for extended periods with really thick items like bread dough). It may not be the best food processor out there but it gets the job done and is much cheaper than the others. It has helped me make easy work of all my veggie recipes that require a lot of chopping of a lot of vegetables. Plus, after 8 years I just called their customer service and they're sending me a replacement "disc shaft" for free as a courtesy. (I accidentally chewed mine up in the garbage disposal.)

Yikes! Retire this design!!!, March 11, 2002

This design came out about 30 years ago -- it was bad then, it is bad now. The motor uses a belt drive. That is why it is noisy. Although it has a seven-cup capacity, you are only allowed to put 2 cups of fluid into the bowl. If you put any more in, it will seep up through the cutting blade and find it's way into the spindle. Yuck. If you read the instructions it tells you not to operate it for anything longer than 1 minute -- yet it says you can knead bread. The reason you can not run it for very long is because you will burn out the motor. I guess if you bought 20 of these machines and transferred the bowl from unit to unit you COULD technically knead bread. So, I guess they are right -- kinda'. It is great for mixing chocolate milk for one person. I wish Hamilton-Beach would get off their collective butts and build a real machine for the masses!

Our Sources

1. Epinions.com

One owner has a mixed review of the Hamilton Beach ChefPrep 72700 Chopper. The reviewer says the food processor liquefies onion and shredded carrots to a pulp, but on the plus side, it has a small footprint and does a good job puréeing vegetables.

2. Amazon.com

There's only one owner-written review at Amazon.com for the small Hamilton Beach 72700, so it's hard to gauge any kind of overall impression. We found more numerous reviews for other mini-choppers.
