Food Steamers
by Contributors to Amazon.com
Our AssessmentAmazon.com sells far more models of food steamers than other retail sites, but many have only a small number of reviews or haven't been reviewed at all by owners. Oster's digital and mechanical two-tier food steamers are top-rated. The single-tier Black & Decker Handy Steamer earns praise from more than 50 owners in two separate postings. Owners who have been using it daily for years say it's indispensible and durable.

Steamer Reviews
by Editors of Which? magazine
Our AssessmentWhich? magazine is the U.K.-based counterpart to ConsumerReports.org. Editors have tested a total of 15 food and veggie steamers, although not all are side-by-side comparisons. Most recently, six steamers were reviewed in January 2010. Four of these models, along with two previous models tested, are named best buys. The information is presented in a chart that shows ratings for performance cooking individual foods, tiered cooking, rice cooking and ease of use. None of the top-rated food steamers are available in the U.S., but the article provides extensive information about vegetable steamer features, advantages and disadvantages.

Food Steamers: Review and Compare
by Editors of Choice magazine
Our AssessmentAustralia's Choice magazine tests the performance and speed of 15 food steamers by cooking salmon, rice, broccoli and hard vegetables. Fiona Mair, the home economist at Choice, also evaluates the ease of using the controls, storing and cleaning the food steamers. Only the Breville Digital Food Steamer BFS600XL is available in the U.S., so it isn't as helpful for U.S. consumers as it is for Australian readers. The article provides buying advice about key features as well as the benefits of steaming food.
