Maytag MQU1654BEW

Pros
  • Upright freezer
  • Quiet
  • Interior light
  • Locking door
  • Energy Star-rated
Cons
  • No door alarm
  • No temperature alarm
  • Not self-defrosting

The now-discontinued Maytag MQU1654BEW was an upright freezer with 15.9 cu. ft. capacity -- one of the largest sizes available to consumers. The catch: This freezer wasn't self-defrosting, so consumers needed to defrost it manually. Still, for its large size, the Maytag freezer was a good value. Features included four fixed door bins, full-width shelves, an interior light, a door lock and two adjustable front legs for leveling. In reviews, the Maytag MQU1654BEW was quiet compared to others available at the time. It was also Energy Star-rated, so it had a higher efficiency rating.
