Better than ironing, but takes planning, October 23, 2009

The unit works as advertised on my button-down shirts and sure beats ironing. The unit can take a while to produce steam (depending on how much water you have in the tank), so you won't be using this 5 minutes before you have to leave the house. Additionally, shirts need to be left to dry a little right after steaming, otherwise you will wrinkle them immediately upon wearing. However, if I make the time to wash and hang a few loads of shirts, I can steam them all very quickly with this unit, which is nice. Bottom line: Not good for individual shirts here and there, but awesome for batching a bunch at once. Also, proper technique can take some time, but then you can work quickly.

Fabulous!! Beats ironing!, September 2, 2009
I bought this to get wrinkles out of store stock and I am so pleased. Works wonderfully! I am so glad that I opted for this model and did not cheap out and buy a lesser one. It is well worth the money for how good a job it does. It is fabulous on wools and silks.
Don't know why I waited so long, July 25, 2009
I wish I had purchased a steamer before. This product is well made, easy to put together and simple to operate. If you've not used a steamer before it does take some getting used to...make sure you are making contact with the clothes! I would encourage anyone with a cashmere/sweater habit to invest in this steamer!
Some design changes would make this much better!, July 20, 2009

This steamer is the second Jiffy I've owned;having just tried a different brand whose hose melted at the juncture but can't be replaced... As a senior, the placement of the knob and the writing of "pre-steam" and On and Off is impossible to see and very hard to reach. L.e.d. lighting behind the dial would help, or at least colored, engraved or raised lettering! (Sight is going, and I had to lie on the floor almost to see where to dial it).It takes a long time to heat up the pre-steam. A transparent water level indicator would be nice; this machine may be functional, but too ugly to be sitting out in the laundry room! Also, the clothes hanger portion is vastly inferior to my last steamer; it has far less capacity, and is too short! Another adjustable section would make it extensible for long dresses or mens' suits. The handle notching may keep the head of the steamer from falling out, but it is awkward to work around. A balanced-placement of room for hangers would help immensely, like a more open "circle 8"? Distilled water would seem to be the way to go to stop some problems written about, maybe caused by mineral deposit accumulation?A drapery pleat steamer/pants creaser attachment with steaming pinchers (like bag clips) would be a real plus. Consider it!

Mixed Reviews, June 26, 2009

The J-4000 needs to preheat for 15 minutes and then takes at least another 5 minutes to make steam so I can't use it without thinking ahead. It puts out a lot of steam and I have scorched myself many times so I've started wearing gloves when I steam. That seems to be working. I am able to steam a lot more clothing than I was able to tolerate ironing. However, the final product is definitely not as good as ironed. I'm still glad I purchased it though. Thought I could use it to do my husband's pants, but they come out sub par. I'm going to have my husband make me a padded vertical ironing board once I fugire out exactly what I want. I think that will improve the final product and speed up the steaming.

About four dozen reviewers give the Jiffy Steamer J-4000 Pro-Line Series Garment Steamer very good reviews on average. Several of the positive reviews come from clothing-store owners. The only consistent complaint is that it is big and bulky -- and maybe overkill for home use.
