The Char-Broil Gourmet TRU-Infrared 463250512 is sold exclusively through Home Depot and is simply the 2012 version of the Char-Broil Red 500 Infrared 463250511 (the grills are mechanically identical). As a result, as most expert reviewers are concerned, the two models perform about the same.
Fuel efficiency is one of this grill's high points; infrared cooking concentrates the heat, so you can achieve higher cooking temps while using less fuel. The grill's three main burners are rated at 35,300 BTU. It features 500 square inches of primary cooking space; a 180-square-inch, 13,000-BTU side burner increases the overall available cooking area to 680 square inches.
This grill receives excellent rankings from a prominent consumer organization, but owners are less generous, with many complaining that it rusts quickly and that performance slides after the first year. Another expert reviewer praises the Red Infrared 500 (the 2011 model) for its cooking ability, but voices his own concerns about its durability. If you want a grill with a better reputation for durability, the Weber Spirit E-310 (*Est. $500) receives reviewer kudos for both value and durability.
The 2011 version of this grill was included in the latest ratings chart by ConsumerReports.org, and About.com's grilling guide Derrick Riches provides a full-length review. Owners at HomeDepot.com weigh in with ratings and comments on how the grill performs in actual use.

Derrick Riches is About.com's barbecuing and grilling guide. He gives the Char-Broil Red 500 a rating of 3.5 stars (out of 5), praising its cooking but questioning its durability. According to Riches, the mechanism used to provide infrared cooking causes a part to heat up so much that the porcelain coating flakes off. This leaves the exposed surface vulnerable to damage from rust. Riches also cautions that the high heat can cause flare-ups.
