Not worth it, November 17, 2009
This vacuum never seems to be fully charged. It is very weak & does not last long after being unplugged. I was very disappointed in this product.
Better than the other hand vac, November 16, 2009

I bought the Black & Decker 18 volt cordless hand vac (Black & Decker PHV1800CB 18-Volt Pivoting-Nose Cordless Energy-Star Handheld Vacuum Cleaner) about a year before I bought this one. The B&D was so LOUD I had to use ear plugs or be driven mad! (Esp. on the higher speed) Needed another for upstairs, so I bought this Shark. It's GREAT! I was concerned when I got it that the instructions said "don't leave plugged in" because I always had cordless vacs that were charged all the time. It has turned out not to be a problem--the charge lasts a long time (for a cordless vac). From my experience, this Vac is much quieter than the B&D and picks up every bit as much...if not more...than the supposedly more powerful B&D. I use the brush attachment almost every time and it's great for quick pick ups and vacuuming the stairs. I find myself bringing it downstairs so I can use it rather than the B&D. Highly recommend!

Great vacuum, November 16, 2009

This is a powerful, small great cordless handheld vacuum. I have another that I purchased a few years ago and it finally went up (nicad battery). I didn't realize how much I would miss it. The only issue with this unit is that the battery replacement is almost as much as a new vacuum, so you're better off just buying a new one like I did. Seems a bit wasteful that the company makes the batteries that expensive. My first vac is still in great shape, but it needs a battery. The company should update and go with lithium-ion.

Our twins have worked great for 3 years now., November 15, 2009
We bought two of these handheld vacs based on the reviews. They have been the best we have ever owned. Great for spot cleaning on the floor, cleaning lint filter, even picks up little pebbles on the patio outside. The inside filters are easy to clean and ours recharge quickly.
The Shark Was Great for 3-4 Months, November 14, 2009
I loved the shark when I first got it. The motorized brush went first, after about 2 months, and then at month 3 or 4 the suction went soft. It would work at full power for about 1 minute, and then slowly peter out. I probably should have contacted the manufacturer, but I didn't. I got a lemon.

1. The Wall Street Journal

In this informal review, five handheld vacuums are put to the test cleaning a "holiday" mixture of potato chip crumbs, wrapping paper bits and other debris. The Shark SV736 outperforms its four competitors including the Black & Decker PHV1800 and the Dyson DC16 Root 6.

2. Amazon.com

With more than 100 owner-written reviews, there are enough ratings for the Shark SV736 to provide a good indication of how well this model works under everyday conditions. While the SV736 isn't the top-rated handheld vacuum on the site, it earns a very respectable high average score of 4 stars out of 5. We found some complaints here and there about durability and ease of use, but overall, owners like it.

ConsumerGuide.com's "Expert Review" goes into a fair amount of detail about the Shark SV736, giving it perfect scores across the board and awarding it a "CG Best Buy" rating. What's not clear is how editors arrived at the rating or whether the product was actually tested.

4. Epinions.com

Epinions has only a handful of reviews for the Shark SV736, but there's enough good information here to be worth a look. One long post with information on features and battery maintenance (with suggestions contrary to the manufacturer's instructions) is particularly interesting.
