Kodak Zi8

The Kodak Zi8 is the first pocket camcorder to offer full 1080p HD, a microphone jack and an image stabilizer to quell hand shake. Several top review sources test it and dub it the best pocket camcorder you can buy -- but others disagree. First, some experts and users say the Zi8's footage looks too shaky when shot in 1080p mode, and the image stabilizer doesn't seem to help at all. Second, even reviewers who like the Zi8 say its built-in microphone is terrible. Third, when testers try to play back their footage on a Mac computer, it looks jumpy and grainy -- possibly because the Zi8's software (which smoothes its playback) isn't Mac-compatible. Other problems include a slow light/dark adjustment and spontaneous stopping in one test. Critics also note that the Zi8 has no built-in memory; you have to buy memory cards.
