These headphones simply rock!, November 14, 2009

I bought these in the US as the price in Germany was 398 or about $600 at the exchange rate at time of purchase and am hugely impressed with them. Wore them on the flight back from US and just switching them on before listening to music or movie totally muffles the surrounding sound in the plane. Sound quality is crystal clear as one would expect from BOSE and the build quality is nothing short of excellent. Great product.

The Best, November 12, 2009

I have been using Bose Quiet Comfort 3 for 6 months now. I bought it in Los Angeles and I live in Turkey. The noise canceling is really amazing. It is probably one of the top 5 in noise canceling among all headphones. Even if you do not play the music but just turn on the headphone, you can easily recognize the difference. Nothing can interrupt your relationship with your headphone when it is on. Despite this it is hard to protect the headphones. It needs an extra effort to carry it with the bag. Despite the positives, I can confess that my headphones do not satisfy when it did the first day I bought. This is common for everybody. You just can't help it. On the other hand, many ask if does this satisfy me after I spent almost 380 USD to afford it. It depends on how much your wallet contains. I think it is a fair price for this high level headphones. Still QC 2 or QC 15 can get more plaudits because their price is more fair for many.

Not Bad, but not GOOD Either, November 2, 2009

I'm going to start off by saying that these are NOT bad headphones, however they fall short of what I would call "Amazing" which is what I would expect for the price. These headphones do everything that they advertise, however there are a few problems with the design. #1 - The quality of the ear pieces is poor-fair. Although they are quite comfortable, they break easily if you are traveling with them or take them to work every day you should expect to have to replace them shortly. Once the plastic underneath the cushon cracks you are SOL and have to spend another $35 to replace them. The warranty is not exactly what I would call adequate either as they say that the ear piece warranty only lasts 6 months while the headphone warranty is 1 year. This tells me that they already know that they area shipping out a product with flimsey construction, the question is - why don't they just use more durable materials in the first place? Obviously, the answer is that they want you to keep buying replacements. #2 - All the accessories are over priced. Fortunately I haven't lost anything from the origional box, but if you lose the little detachable cord that goes from the headphones to the stereo jack you are out another $25 for something that would be 1.99-4.99 at radio shack if not for the fact that it plugs into the head phones at a wierd angle, no doubt so the customer can not find a generic cord anywhere else. #3 - The battery takes a really long time to charge compared to other batteries on the market these days. Again... the product does what it is supposed to, but for almost $400 i would rather not have the design flaws mentioned in #1, and dramatic markups for common or cheaply manufactured "accessories" should anything break or go missing.

As advertised, October 26, 2009
Bought these as a gift. Person who received them is satisfied. I have the "over the ear" version but this apparently provide same effect. Still pricey, but definately worth the price.
Both earpieces broke - Bose won't replace without $100 fee, October 17, 2009

While the headphones have awesome sound quality, the construction is poor on the earpieces. I travel all the time, and often sleep in my headphones on the plane. Just after the one-year warranty ended, both foam earpieces separated from the main headset and they're now uncomfortable and feel like they're too flimsy to wear. After spending $300 for a headset, I expect better construction and most certainly a "real" warranty. There are lots of complaints online (which I discovered only recently). Bose now has a fix for this problem, but they want me to pay another $100 to fix faulty design.

1. CNET

David Carnoy of CNET compares Bose QuietComfort 3's sound quality to the equally well-regarded QuietComfort 2. He says they have fuller bass than their predecessors, although detail isn't as good. However, Carnoy likes the battery pack and other minor improvements, such as memory-foam earpads, and notes that the difference in sound quality between the two Bose models is negligible for the average listener.

2. GoodGearGuide.com

GoodGearGuide.com's James Dickinson rates the QuietComfort 3 highly for noise cancelation, saying that they "really can transform a flight from a hellish experience to one merely of mild discomfort." Although sound quality isn't quite as good as other headphones in their price range, it's far from bad, and the price is the only downside for Dickinson.

3. Which? (UK)

A listening panel rates the Bose QuietComfort 3 noise-canceling headphones. While they feel that the QC2s are slightly better, the panel likes the design improvements, comfort and sound quality of the QC3s, which features "good balanced sound reproduction." As with the other Bose model, the only real complaint is the price.

4. PCMag.com

Reviewer Mike Kobrin prefers the noise-cancelation circuitry and design of this model over the QC2s, but says there is a slight trade-off in sound quality. He also wishes they were more portable, and says he would appreciate an on-off switch for noise cancelation that would allow the headset to function without battery power.

5. Choice.com.au

This Australian site rigorously tests 15 noise-canceling headphones, giving scores for comfort, ease of use, passive and active noise cancelation as well as sound quality. The Bose QuietComfort 2 and QuietComfort 3 score highest out of the models still in production, as they are comfortable and perform well with active noise reduction. Testers frown on their prices, though.

6. Consumer magazine

This New Zealand-based consumer site tests 12 noise-canceling headphones under controlled conditions. They evaluate noise-cancelation ability, sound quality, comfort and ease of use. The Bose QuietComfort 3 are top-rated, praised for their active noise reduction and audio quality. But Consumer doesn't like the high price.

7. Amazon.com

More than 150 users rate the QuietComfort 3 headphones, and about half give them a perfect score of five stars. They praise music quality, comfort and noise cancelation, but users are split over whether the QC2s or QC3s are better. Some owners say they are uncomfortable with the sensations caused by the noise-canceling technology, while others complain about headphones breaking.
