The Suunto t6c is a beefy heart-rate monitor for serious athletes. Features go well beyond the usual pulse readout and calorie count. The Suunto t6c calculates a range of performance indicators including training effect, respiratory rate and oxygen consumption. You can also buy additional "pods," but reviewers complain that those add considerably to the already steep price tag. Feedback is excellent on the Suunto's ease of use, accuracy, comfort and durability. It's not necessary to spend $400 for a reliable heart-rate monitor though. The Polar F11 (*Est. $160) is well-reviewed overall, and it comes with a good set of features including statistic-tracking software.
We found several good professional reviews of the Suunto t6c heart-rate monitor. Wired, which offers short product reviews geared toward technology-savvy gadget lovers, has a short but solid write-up of the Suunto's hardware and accompanying software. A fitness-focused blog called Becoming Triathlete offers an interesting features and performance comparison of the Suunto t6c with the Garmin Forerunner 405. There are also some helpful user reviews on Amazon.com. The best owner-written posts there are more helpful than the mediocre editorial reviews at GearPatrol.com and 3Luxe.com.
