Timex Personal Trainer Heart Rate Monitor T5G971

Budget heart-rate monitor with calorie tracking
- Inexpensive
- Tracks calories in addition to heart rate
- Good accuracy
- User-replaceable battery
- User manual is not detailed
The Timex Personal Trainer T5G971 is a basic heart-rate monitor that tracks heart rate and calories burned. While it has fewer features than some pricier monitors, the Timex Personal Trainer performs well in independent testing, where it's found to be accurate and easy to use. Reviewers say the large display is easy to read, and there is little to no delay in picking up heart-rate readings from the chest strap. The Timex Personal Trainer uses user-replaceable batteries, which is also a plus. While the Timex heart-rate monitor gets good overall ratings from owners, we did see a few complaints about reliability. If you don't need to know your calorie expenditure, the Omron HR-100C (*Est. $35) also gets good reviews, and it just tracks heart rate. It's slightly cheaper than the Timex Personal Trainer, but it also performs well in independent testing.
The best review of the Timex Personal Trainer T5G971 comes from ConsumerReports.org, which tests the monitor in its latest review. Owner-written reviews are also helpful, especially at Amazon.com. The online retailer hosts more than 100 owner reviews on the Timex Personal Trainer T5G971. We also found a few user reviews at Timex.com.
