Cordless hedge trimmer
- Cordless
- Lightweight
- Quiet
- Optional extra battery packs
- Not as powerful as corded trimmers
- Lacks a lock-on feature
- Some users report short battery life
According to reviewers, the 18-volt, battery-powered Black & Decker NHT518 hedge trimmer is not as powerful as similar corded hedge trimmers, but it's a good choice for quick jobs involving branches less than 1/2 of an inch thick. While owners appreciate that it's cordless, some users report poor battery life. David Beaulieu, About.com's guide to landscaping, discusses how long a single charge will last, saying, "I trimmed a bush shortly after charging my cordless hedge trimmer for the first time, then trimmed another a week later. I tested the product again today, three weeks after the initial charge, and it's still cutting perfectly." Overall, the Black & Decker NHT518 receives excellent ratings from owners. If you don't mind dealing with a power cord, the corded Craftsman 79957 (*Est. $60) has more power and costs less.
The Black & Decker NHT518 is included in ratings of 14 hedge trimmers by ConsumerReports.org. The Black & Decker cordless hedge trimmer is also highly praised in a USA Today magazine article that discusses a few products from the manufacturer, but it does not compare the NHT518 cordless trimmer with any others. More than 100 Amazon.com user reviews yield a high average rating, with owners recommending the cordless Black & Decker NHT518 for most trimming needs, as well as offering context on performance over time.
