cordless trimmer, November 19, 2009

I added this tool to my other Black & Decker garden aides (the cordless trimmer and blower) and now I have the best trio of yard help I could ask for. The hedge trimmer cuts almost anything, is lightweight and easy to use. I especially like the shared batteries among the three tools. I use is for shrubs, weeds, cutting down perennials in the fall. It won't do much for woody stems over an inch diameter but works really well on anything else.

Trims my hedge like a champ!, November 18, 2009

I have bought several of the B&D 18-volt cordless lawn tools and have been happy with every one of them. I'm an individual homeowner just trying to keep my yard looking good, so I haven't used these in anything resembling a commercial level of use. I've used the hedge trimmer 3 or 4 times since purchasing it earlier this year. Seems plenty powerful enough to handle my bushes. Battery life is better than I expected. Twice I have done about 40 feet of hedges one day and another 60 feet or so the next - this was due to my time constraints, not the hedger's power capacity. I did charge the battery in between, so I can't say whether the trimmer could have handled the 100 feet of bushes on one battery. But it was cutting away without any sign of power decrease at the end of both days. I was very pleasantly surprised at what a good job this product did. I was sort of prepared to have to baby it a little or face the need to charge the battery more often. I was OK with this to avoid electrical cords or the touchiness I've experienced with gas lawn tools. And since I have other B&D 18-volt tools and batteries, having to switch batteries if needed was a non-issue. I found the unit to be lightweight & easy to hold and use. My wife trimmed about 40 feet one time with it - said her arms were tired and tingly from the vibration. But she likely would have felt the same way had she used our electric hedge trimmer, I think. Thumbs up, B&D!

Waste of money and time, November 16, 2009
Don't waste you money or time. Battery takes 3 hours to charge and 15 minutes to run down. Works on small ends but over 1/8 inch binds up. Bought one 3 months later went back to electric corded trimmer.
Works great and power is just enough, November 5, 2009

This is a great hedge trimmer made by Black and Decker. The trimmer is quiet and because it is electric, it starts and stops instantly. The handle is sort of thick so squeezing the trigger and cutting for more than 5 minutes at a time might make your hand cramp (that's what happens to me and I am 200 pounds). It states it can cut branches 3/4 inch, and it is true. With enough tenacity, you can cut up to 1 inch branches. When branches are too thick and get cut in the trimmer, it automatically shuts off. You then have to unjam it to restart it. Battery life is somewhat decent. I got about 30 minutes of use out of one battery with a few minutes break in-between. Highly suggested to have a spare battery charged and ready to go while you are using this. There is no option to connect a cord to it, only battery. The batteries are interchangeable with other 18 volt B&D tools, which is a huge plus. I have the complete set of blower, weed whacker and this trimmer. If you need a complete set, check out the Lawn Care set. That comes with a 3 battery charger (3 batteries) and hanging kit to organize the tools. The charger that is supplied with it is a "dummy" charger. It does not know when the battery is full and you have to keep an eye on how long you have had it plugged in. Recommendations are to not have it charged for more than 8 hours. I normally charge my battery in the morning and then use it in the afternoon. All in all, this is a great trimmer. It is silent and powerful. You can get a lot of work done without worrying about disturbing your neighbors because it makes very little sound. I highly recommend this tool.

Simple, light, works great, November 4, 2009
Not more to say than what I've got in the title. It's so easy to use that my mom trimmed a lot of the hedges.
