Graco Contempo

Pros
  • Folds flat
  • No assembly required
  • Multiple height adjustments
  • Three position recline
Cons
  • Footrest not adjustable
  • Can be hard to clean
  • Wheels may not roll on hard surfaces

The Graco Contempo is a reasonably priced and reasonably functional high chair that folds away compactly. It seems to be most popular as a second high chair in a grandparent's or caregiver's home. It stores well, but it is not easy to clean.

Basic safety features, but wheels don't lock well

The Graco Contempo is described by parents as a well-constructed and sturdy high chair. It is equipped with a convertible five- or three-point harness and has a T-bar that prevents baby from sliding out of the seat. The wheels get mixed reviews, with some owners saying they are not effective on wood or hard surface floors. More than one parent mentions that the tray table insert is easy for larger babies to remove and fling across the room.

Stores well, not easy to clean

One of the biggest selling points to the Graco Contempo is its ability to fold down flat and stow away easily. However, more than one parent comments that the folding mechanism is difficult to operate and requires two hands. The seat  comes with two removable, machine washable covers, but the seat itself has to be wiped clean. Some parents say the strap channels collect food particles. There are few complaints about the cleaning or removal of the tray -- with the exception of the too-easy-to-remove insert.

A basic chair

The Graco Contempo is described by reviewers and parents as a great choice for small spaces or a caregiver's home because it stores well. It is not overly childish looking. The large tray is described as a good place for messy activities such as finger painting. Parents also like the Contempo's six-position adjustable height and three incline positions.

Warranty and track record

The Graco Contempo has a one year limited warranty.

The bottom line

The Graco Contempo is a perfectly functional high chair, but it is not the best in its price class for safety or usability. It may be a good choice to use occasionally at Grandma's house, but it's not convenient or durable enough to use day to day.
