So far a great AV receiver, November 23, 2009
This is our third Onkyo AV receiver. The first didn't last very long. The second is still in excellent condition. We simply wanted to upgrade to accomodate high definition TV. We have owned this third model only a few weeks. So far it is working very well. It may run a little warm, but that may be normal.
Great system, but why is the receiver the same price as the entire system?, November 21, 2009
These Onkyo home theater systems are by far the most for the money, but I can't figure out why this receiver by itself costs only $20 less than what seems to be the same receiver, plus 8 speakers (including a subwoofer). See the Onkyo HT-S5200 7.1-Channel Home Entertainment Receiver/Speaker Package for comparison.
Very Happy with This Reciever, November 19, 2009
I have been using this reciever for about 6 mo now and love it. Very easy to setup with the on screen menu. The video upscaling works great and the 7.2 sound is incredible. Would highly recommend
The Perfect home A/V product for a mid-range price, November 19, 2009

I decided to replace my Denon with this Onkyo. The Denon cost me more than twice as much; I thought I would be disappointed with the Onkyo, but I've had Onkyo receivers in the past, so I thought I'd take the risk and buy this one. I am not disappointed. I can say the sound is clearer, chrisper, and the setup is much easier than with the Denon (which has been consigned to my bedroom). The design is simple, but elegant. I especially like the six HDMI 1.3 inputs (one output). I was able to disconnect a Psyclone HDMI switcher I have been using for two years. I also like that the remote can be easily programmed to control my Blu-Ray player and my set-top box from AT&T U-Verse. The video quaility is excellent. Both my wife and I noticed a marked difference in the vibrancy of colors and definition. It also has LFE outputs for two subwoofers. And it can easily be programmed for a Zone 2 (watch 5.1 surround movie in the living room and listen to the radio in the bedroom at the same time), or view the movie with 7.1 surround sound. I couldn't be more pleased with this product, and I couldn't believe the low-end price!

Just what the doctor ordered., November 4, 2009

Easy setup, sounds great, and I've got expandability to 7.2 channels when I'm ready. The video processing has been a pleasant surprise. Either my eyes are easy to please or the complaints about the upconverting of analog sources was incorrect. Also, the Audyssey room calibration stuff is slick! Pull the mic to the sweet spots, hit Enter, and walk away. Either this new receiver sounds 100x better than my old Sony, or the calibration I've been doing with my sound meter has been way off. Anyway I'm very, very pleased with this receiver.

Our Sources

1. Home Theater Magazine

Home Theater magazine reports on the Onkyo TX-SR607 in a comprehensive review. Extensive testing is done and well documented. Mark Fleischmann expresses doubts about the benefits of Dolby Pro Logic IIz at the onset, but he's particularly won over by his enhanced movie-watching experience. The magazine grants the Onkyo TX-SR607 its Top Pick award.

2. CNET

CNET's review of the Onkyo TX-SR607 is less technical but just as detailed as Home Theater magazine's. Video capabilities score poorly, and reviewers are not as impressed with Dolby Pro Logic IIz. While the lack of multichannel audio inputs is regrettable, HDMI connectivity is outstanding and the sound quality is deemed excellent for a receiver in this price class.

3. TrustedReviews.com

Features and easy setup are praised, and the Dolby Pro Logic IIz is called "worthwhile." Danny Phillips says the bottom line is that the Onkyo TX-SR607 sounds terrific with music and movies. The fact that upconversion is limited to 1080i is the most significant negative. In the final analysis, the Onkyo TX-SR607 earns a rating of nine out of 10 and a Recommended award.

4. TechRadar.com

In a review that originally appeared in Britain's Home Cinema Choice magazine, Alvin Gold says that the Onkyo TX-SR607 is capable of bold, solid, and immersive sound quality. Setup is easy and the extensive line up of features is praised; however, Gold questions the value of Dolby Pro Logic IIz and whether there might be "too many toys for comfort."

5. Amazon.com

Reviews are starting to accumulate here for the Onkyo TX-SR607, and everything looks aces so far. No user rates the receiver less than four stars out of five, and most give it the top grade.

6. NewEgg.com

User reviews here follow a similar pattern to those at Amazon.com, with all but two owners giving the Onkyo TX-SR607 a perfect grade. One dissenter received an apparently defective unit, and another mistook a protective feature (the receiver shuts down to protect itself if it detects a defective speaker cable) for a failure out of the box.
