- Great sound quality
- Great value
- Uncolored sound reproduction
- Excellent performance with music
- Small "sweet spot" for best sound quality
- Sound quality decreases at high volume levels
Headbangers and those who like to hear their music and movies in the next area code will likely be better served by beefier and more expensive home theater speakers. For everyone else, experts say the Energy Take Classic delivers incredible sound quality, especially considering the price. Critics are especially bowled over by the system's ability to deliver sound without adding coloration of its own. Reviews also say that the Take Classic's competence in reproducing music makes it a natural pick for those who use their home theaters for more than watching movies. The Hsu Research Performance 1 home theater system (*Est. $500) is another well-regarded pick at this price point. That system adds an additional rear surround for 6.1-channel sound. However, reports say that setup is a little tricky for some listening rooms and Hsu Research only sells directly, not through retailers (though a 30-day return policy is offered). Though the system itself is now discontinued, the satellites are still offered as the Energy Take Classic 5 Pack (*Est. $200), but you'll need to select a subwoofer on your own.
The Energy Take Classic has been extensively reviewed. The best report is at Playback magazine, where it is part of an eight home theater system roundup article. We also found great single-product reviews at a host of other sites, including Home Theater magazine, Audioholics.com, Home Theater & Sound and Sound & Vision. User reviews are limited, but some can be seen at Amazon.com.

In this balanced review, J. Walker Clarke says that while the Energy Take Classic is not capable of shaking the walls of your house, it will outperform most comparable options for movies, and especially for music. He adds that the value "raises the bar for the competition."
