Budget home theater speakers.
- Very inexpensive
- Good sound quality
- Solid construction
- Flimsy hookup cables
- More expensive systems sound better
- Not suitable for large rooms
While audiophiles should probably turn away, owners who've purchased the 5.1-channel Yamaha NS-SP1800 as a budget or secondary home theater speaker system seem pleased with its value and overall performance. Construction is solid, most say, however some complain that the included cables are flimsy. Sound quality is great considering the price but is really no match for more expensive systems such as the Klipsch HD Theater 500 (*Est. $600). Power is adequate for filling up a smaller space with sound, though the subwoofer is too low powered to provide much of a kick for high-powered action films.
Professional reviewers can't seem to find the time to review home theater speakers as inexpensive as the Yamaha NS-SP1800, but owner reviews are available and very helpful. The biggest assortment by far can be found at Amazon.com. A small handful can also be read at JR.com and the reborn CircuitCity.com.

Our Sources
1. Amazon.com
Roughly 35 owner reviewers give the Yamaha NS-SP1800 a nice 4.5 out of five rating. Impressively, while most award the system five out of five stars, only two award it less than four stars, and one of those is now pleased following the replacement of a defective center-channel speaker. Value, construction quality and sound quality are all complimented. Few negatives are consistently cited, but some say the included wires are flimsy.

2. JR.com
You'll only find a small handful of reviews here for the Yamaha NS-SP1800, but taken together with the reviews at Amazon.com they paint an attractive picture. Great sound is cited in every report, however most also add that the low power makes these home-theater speakers a better choice for a smaller room. All rate it five stars and say they would recommend the speakers to a friend.

The old Circuit City might be gone, but the brand lives on in cyberspace in the form of this online retailer. Like JR.com, only a handful of reviews are available here -- and even those are shared with sister site TigerDirect.com. What there is looks very good as all owner reviewers give the Yamaha NS-SP1800 either a four-star or five-star rating.
