Best reference site
- Free
- Easy to search
- Safe, fun section for kids
- Lots of ads
- Gaps in subject areas
- No individual help
We found the best review of the Infoplease Homework Center at Forbes.com, where it's recommended in the Best of the Web section for abundant information that's easy to search. An older review at The New York Times is partially outdated, since the e-mail help service has been discontinued. The most current review, at TopTenReviews.com, is also the most detailed, but compares only the Fact Monster section with other homework help sites. Berit's Best Sites For Children, which screens sites for safe content and links, also reviews only Fact Monster, rather than the larger Homework Help Center.
Reviewers recommend the Infoplease Homework Center as the best reference site, with ample information that's easy to search. Fact Monster, a kid-friendly section designed for children 14 and under, makes it especially easy and fun to look for answers. Art, music and English are well-covered at Fact Monster, but math is covered only through pre-algebra, science subjects are spotty and no foreign language help is offered. The larger Homework Center offers a great deal of information on history, geography and world events, but if kids navigate there directly rather than from Fact Monster, they find lots of ads that are easy to click on by mistake. It's not clear whether or not these ads are screened for kid safety. For safe links to coverage of more subjects, reviewers recommend BJPinchbeck.com.

Top Ten Reviews includes the Fact Monster section of the Infoplease Homework Center in its detailed comparison of 14 homework help sites -- showing features, subject areas, grades and more. Fact Monster is ranked fifth, apparently because it's judged useful only through grade nine.
