The WindChaser HUNi combines an ultrasonic humidifier with a negative ion air purifier and night light. It has a one-half gallon tank and outputs about three-quarters of a gallon per day -- enough to humidify a small bedroom or office cubicle. While the humidifier seems to work well, there's scant evidence ionic air purifiers are effective, and numerous owner reviews point out that the night light provides about as much light as a tabletop lamp. Still, most owners seem to like it, and several offer solutions -- ranging from towels to spray paint -- for subduing the glow of the night light. Like all ultrasonic humidifiers, this unit may produce white dust unless you fill it with distilled water. For about the same price, the evaporative cool mist Honeywell HCM-630 (*Est. $50) receives good reviews from owners and will humidify a larger area, but it does make more noise.

The WindChaser HUNi isn't included in professional humidifier tests, but we did find more than 100 owner reviews for this model at Walmart.com, Buzzillions.com and Amazon.com.
