- Portable and light
- Good text, photo prints
- Can print directly from cameras
- Expensive
- No memory-card slots
- Prints are relatively expensive
The Canon Pixma iP100 gets good reviews as a portable inkjet printer, the gist being that while the price is high, you'll get good print quality and decent speed from a contraption weighing about 5 pounds including adapter. In comparison, the best-value, general-use desktop inkjet printer in reviews, the Canon Pixma iP4700 (*Est. $100), weighs more than 12 pounds and is much bulkier. Reviews say the Canon Pixma iP100 is pretty quick, and its paper tray can hold 50 sheets. Some reviews say the print quality can hold its own with full-size printers in its price range. While the iP100 doesn't have memory-card slots or Wi-Fi connectivity, you can hook up via USB and print directly from a camera via PictBridge or connect via infrared from a cell phone.
We found the best reviews from PCMag.com and CNET. Both do extensive testing and arrive at an overall score that helps readers see how a printer rates against others. TrustedReviews.com's coverage includes cost per print in various situations. The main lesson is that the Canon Pixma iP100 probably isn't the best choice as an everyday home printer, although a few owner reviews at Amazon.com say just that.

Our Sources
The Canon Pixma iP100 gets a "very good" rating after testing faster than usual for a portable and better than its predecessor, the iP90, on cartridge life (although still not as good as the HP H470).

2. CNET
CNET's coverage of printers isn't encyclopedic, but testing is first rate. The Canon Pixma iP100 gets an Editors' Choice award and four out of five stars. A handful of owner reviews combine to give it an even higher score. The gist is that the high resolution and portability justify the relatively high price.
Review: Canon Pixma iP100, Justin Yu, April 22, 2008
This isn't the best place to find a pecking order, but testing is thorough. For example, TrustedReviews.com says the prints, while very good even on photos, are twice as expensive on black-and-whites as on the now-discontinued Canon Pixma iP2600.
