- Value
- Good output all around
- No duplex printing
- Photos may be a bit yellow
- Replacement inks cost $60
- Owners say setup is challenging
The Pixma iP3600 gets some praise in reviews as a basic inkjet printer, but reviewers usually come down on the side of the slightly more expensive Canon Pixma iP4700 (*Est. $100), which includes an automatic duplex function (the ability to print on both sides of a piece of paper simultaneously). An issue that comes up with all inexpensive printers is the cost of replacement ink, which can quickly eclipse the cost of the printer. Replacing the five ink cartridges costs about $60. While some say photo prints are good in relation to the printer's price, some mention a yellowish tint. Owner reviews are scarce, but some note difficulty with setup.
We rank About.com's coverage of the Canon Pixma iP3600 as best. Hands-on use is apparent, and Peter Piazza's buying advice makes sense. As of this writing, there are just a few owner reviews on Amazon.com, but that should improve over time. We've also included some reviews of the older iP3500.

1. About.com
About.com's guide to printers and scanners, Peter Piazza, reviews the Canon Pixma iP3600 after hands-on use and recommends spending about $20 more for the iP4600, which has duplex printing. Otherwise, the iP3600 produces "beautiful color prints" for a cheap initial price. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com, but the two don't share an editorial affiliation.)

2. Amazon.com
About 20 owner reviews are posted for the iP3600 at this writing, with two-thirds giving the printer five out of five stars. The two one-star reviews say the iP3600 was dead on arrival, while the handful of other less-than-impressed users say setup was difficult, but the printer worked fine afterward.

3. CNET
This review of the older, but very similar iP3500, says the print quality is great for a cheap, home-use inkjet printer if your needs are basic. About 10 user reviews combine for a lower rating with really no consensus on complaints, although paper jams are the most common gripe.
