very disappointed, November 19, 2009

The directions for set-up are very clear and easy to follow. But that was as far as I could get. I could NOT get any power to the printer. I tried several outlets, checked connections, etc. and finally sent an e-mail to hp's support people. Several days later, I got an answer to try a different outlet. I wrote back that I had and did again and still could get nothing. Several days later I got an e-mail that a higher-up would call me in 2-3 business days. He didn't. I sent the printer back. It's too bad their customer support has become so abysmal. I used to like their printers.

Great for the $$$$, November 15, 2009
This is a wonderful, inexpensive little printer...If your printing is not "massive" I highly recommend for home use!
Printing Around The Edges, November 1, 2009

When it does come down to it, HP does make honestly the best quality in printers. They have shown that very well with their Deskjet series over the years. But, when their is always a great job with printer, there is honestly one that could have had a bit better of a use for. That is honestly the case with their Deskjet D1660 Printer. While it is a inexpensive and convient price for a printer, there are a few problems that I've had with the printer right out the gate. The first of them is that my laptop wasn't able to recognize the software that came with the HP Printer. It was very difficult to install after a few times, so I had to deal with their customer service for constant help. Second, the other problem I had is that I couldn't put too many sheets of paper into the printer slot, because there were too many paper jams, that ultimately shut the printer down. As a result, you would need to honestly put around 20-35 sheets of paper in the slot for it to work, rather than more of them. Also, you would need to purchase a USB 2.0 Cable seperately, which doesn't come with the Printer. Overall, while it does print out a lot of great documents, I was expecting a little bit better for what the price was able to print out in results. Hopefully, HP can come up with better printers that are easier to use, at a affordable price. Price: C+ Setup: C Convience: C+ Overall: C 1/2+

Not bad for the price, October 20, 2009

BEFORE YOU READ ANYTHING ELSE, this printer comes with everything you'll need (including ink cartridges) EXCEPT the cable that connects it to your cpu. Be sure you buy a USB cable! My old HP Deskjet finally died, so needed a replacement. Purchased this one a week ago. Setup was easy. Am still using Windows XP, so all went well and quickly. I had more hassle disconnecting the old printer from all of the cord tangle than anything else. Print quality is fine. A couple of negatives, though. HP insists on adding all kinds of ad junk to your browser - I didn't see a quick way to do a custom install, so had to go in and delete all of it out. Lag time between clicking the print button and actual printing is substantial. (This may be a function of my older cpu.) This is undoubtedly the loudest printer I have ever owned. But it was $29.99. If it lasts a couple of years, how can I complain?

Wow the price is great. Not as fast as my old printer but half the price and a lot smaller. Would be great for a college student.

1. TrustedReviews.com

Simon Williams gives the HP Deskjet D1660 printer a Recommended seal in this review. He is very impressed with the low cost and (relatively) high quality of the machine. "Black text is remarkably clean for an entry-level inkjet printer," he says, though photos aren't spectacular and speeds are average. Williams says that, considering the occasional use this printer is designed for, the D1660 is a good choice.

2. CNET

Though CNET hasn't yet reviewed the HP Deskjet D1660, Justin Yu takes a look at its sister model, the D2660, in this review. Yu finds the Deskjet to be "a simple, headache-free printer for the home or office," thanks to its speed and good-quality text. While CNET's comparative charts show that the D2660's performance holds up well against other budget printers, Yu won't recommend it for photo printing and doesn't like the short 90-day warranty, which the D1660 shares.

3. Amazon.com

Amazon.com has a handful of user reviews of the HP Deskjet D1660 and earns an average rating of four stars. One satisfied customer likes the D1660's looks, price, print quality and ease of setup, while one dissatisfied customer reports being unable to get the drivers to work in Windows Vista.

4. HP.com

About 10 users rate the Deskjet D1660 at HP's online store, though only half leave comments, making HP.com a less reliable source than Amazon.com. Speed and print quality, especially considering the price, are praised.
