Office inkjet printer with networking
- Good output quality and speed
- Great value
- Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Auto-duplex printing
- Bulky and not very stylish
- No PictBridge port or memory-card reader
Although the number of single-function inkjets in general, and business inkjets in particular, have dwindled in recent years, HP's Officejet line continues to reap praise in these categories. The new Officejet 6000 Wireless gets much favorable attention from reviewers, who like its comparatively good speed, print quality and low cost. The printer is noted as a viable alternative to laser printers, since it prints better photos than, and nearly matches the text of, a color laser. Opinions are divided about long-term ink costs, though. Reviewers say that a dedicated photo printer like the Canon Pixma iP4700 (*Est. $100) is a better choice for the home. The HP Officejet 6000 boasts business-class features such as a high paper capacity (250 sheets) and monthly duty cycle (7,000 sheets), wireless and Ethernet network capability and an auto duplexer for double-sided printing. The HP Officejet 6000 Wireless also comes in a nonwireless version (*Est. $80) that also lacks the duplexer, though reviewers who compare the two feel that the wireless model is worth the extra money.
We found a number of comprehensive reviews of the HP Officejet 6000 Wireless. PCMag.com, CNET and Macworld all feature reviews by veteran tech writers and provide plenty of comparison with current standards set by models in the same class. British sources TrustedReviews.com and PC Advisor look at the nonwireless version of the Officejet 6000 and add some insight, though they don't compare it with non-HP printers. We found a few Amazon.com user reviews too but not enough for consensus.

Veteran printer reviewer M. David Stone takes a look at the HP Officejet 6000 Wireless for PCMag.com. Stone gives the printer an Editors' Choice, saying that the Officejet 6000 "reverses the trend" of single-purpose inkjets that get less and less impressive with each generation. Stone says the printer offers an attractive balance of value and performance, and also acknowledges its many energy- and ink-saving features with a PCMag.com GreenTech Approved seal.

2. CNET
Justin Yu at CNET gives the HP Officejet 6000 Wireless high marks for its print quality, speed and wireless connectivity. He's less impressed that the Officejet 6000 lacks a media-card reader, LCD screen and USB cable (though that last quibble could apply to nearly any printer). CNET's performance stats of the Officejet 6000 against printers from Lexmark and Canon are clear and helpful, though the Officejet 6000 is erroneously placed in the site's multifunction printer section.

Thorough testing charts characterize James Galbraith's Macworld analysis of the HP Officejet 6000 Wireless. Galbraith concludes that the Officejet 6000 may be better suited to some business environments than a laser printer or other office inkjets (like Epson's Workforce series), thanks to its great-looking text output and low operating costs. While photos and graphics aren't as good as on a photo printer, they easily look better than those from color lasers.
