Cutter Advanced

Pros
  • Safe to use on children
  • Odorless
  • Non-sticky
  • Doesn't damage synthetics
Cons
  • Not long-acting
  • Must be washed off
  • Can't be applied more than three times daily

Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent has a 7 percent concentration of picaridin, a synthetic ingredient that is said to be comparable to a low-concentration DEET mosquito repellent in effectiveness. Reviews say that Cutter Advanced protects for up to 2.5 hours and may be applied up to three times a day. It is odorless and non-sticky once applied, but should be washed off the skin after returning indoors. Unlike DEET, which is a solvent, picaridin won't damage synthetic materials if you touch them with it on your skin. If you would like to avoid chemicals altogether, BiteBlocker Organic Xtreme Insect Spray (*Est. $9 for 6.7 oz.) is made from natural oils and has a similar duration of effectiveness.

Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent is included in informal reviews at Slate.com and About.com. We also read a dozen or so user reviews at Amazon.com and also Drugstore.com.
